In the last month or two there have been a lot of huge photos posted on the board. It makes it difficult to view the photo itself as well as the posts made on the rest of the page. To prevent this from happening in the future, the Forum rules have been updated to restrict photo size to 800 pixels wide by 600 pixels high for landscape orientation and 600w x 800h for portrait.
If you upload to the forum gallery it will automatically resize the photo for you. If you upload to other hosting sites you will need to ensure the size is appropriate before posting. The updated rules may be found here: http://www.catforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=508

Hi there,
I uploaded two photos. I am not sure that the two pictures were applicable to your guidelines. If those were wrong, then please let me know. Also, I am not a computer specialist, does anybody know how to resize the photo using free software or bundled with Macintosh ? I am using Macintosh computer. (Intel Mac, OS X, Tiger.) Thanks and Best Regards, Yoshi

If I remember right, when you use the upload from your machine function to set your avatar, and you leave the size fields blank, the forum software will attempt to resize your avatar to the max allowable image size. It will only do this, however, if the FILE size is within limits. If the file size is also too large, then it will refuse to upload.
There's a freeware image editor called Irfanview that does a nice job of resizing images. It's free and easy to use. Just look for it at any of the usual freeware/shareware download sites, like download.com |

Isn't Irfanview Windows-only? GIMP is available for Mac OS X, although it's overkill for image resizing: http://www.gimp.org/macintosh/
