Default Possible to tell length of fur in kitten??

My Gordon is pretty young, but I was wondering if it's possible to tell if he will have long hair? He seems like a really big fur ball to me, more so than your normal kitten.

If this picture isn't clear enough let me know and I'll get a better one (:

Based on the picture you posted, I'd say he looks like a fluffy kitten, but a short hair. I'm going principally by his tail, since long-haired cats typically have very floofy, "feather-duster" type tails. Still, it's very hard to tell from the picture you posted. So, you could post more pics, which might tell a different story.

Also, I imagine you will be taking him to your vet shortly, and the vet should be able to tell whether he's a long-hair or short-hair, if the pictures don't do him justice. Either way, he's a cutie!

I agree with Susan; I would say that at the most he will be a medium haired cat.

Longhaired kittens often have tails that are a bit triangular in shape, broad at the root of the tail and tapering to a point, over here we call them christmas tree tails because the hairs will stand out to the side like the branches on a christmas tree.

In that last picture he does seem to have a tail that's very broad at the base ? Could you take a better one against an unpatterned background ?

I now agree with Mimosa. In the second picture you posted, his tail leads me to believe he might be long-haired. It's still hard to tell based on these pictures alone. We need more pictures! A picture of his face would help too.

Kind of tough to tell right now...definitely doesn't look like a short hair, but I couldn't really predict whether he'll be medium or long haired.

But I don't think the tail is much of a predictor...look at the pics of Holly in the thread below...even at 8 and 12 weeks her tail isn't very fluffy. But then look at the one year pic...and it's even fluffier now than it was then. And I would classify her as an extra long hair.

Post pictures of then and now of your cat.

Both of my cats, medium long hairs, had all-over longer hairs that stuck out past the main coat as kittens. Neither had a swishy-squirrel tail as small kittens, that developed by 6 months.
