As I just posted earlier today, I do not currently have a cat (and won't have one for another half year or so) but I am trying to brush up on my info during this time period.
I want our future cat's litter to be eco-friendly. I've read a lot of reviews on different "eco" cat litter and have come to the conclusion that the "Smart Cat Box" might fit into our lifestyle the best. If you aren't familiar with it, here is the website: SMART CAT BOX.com as well as a video about it: Does anyone have any experience with this litter box system, and if so, could you share? I am also aware that Tidy Cat now has a similar system called Breeze: Litter Box Demo Video | BREEZEŽ. I like that this option has an absorbent pad for the urine. However, I don't like that the pellets / pads are not biodegradable (hopefully we will have a compost pile by the time we get a cat). |

I'd rather scoop solid pee balls out of the litter than deal with actual pee. ewww

Haha, I'm not too concerned about dealing with the pee as long as I don't have to touch it, which with the Smart Cat Box you don't. I'm just worried it smells. I wonder if I could put a puppy pad in the urine receptacle.

I actually did a lot of looking around late last night on the interwebz researching different litter box alternatives, including the Cat Genie. I concluded that I'm going to stick with scooping the cat boxes myself, which, even though it's my very least favorite part of my day, really only takes a couple minutes.
My biggest fear is that I'd miss a health problem with my girls by not dealing with this myself.

It claims that very few seeds cling to the poop, but if your cat happens to have the runs, I'm sure it can get kind of messy. I've seen lots of rave reviews online, but I've also seen a few people say that it doesn't cover odor well. Others claim they can't smell a thing. Guess it's good I have some time to think it over. |

If one of my girls ever has to have her urine tested, I'd rather have the vet take it at the clinic in the proper manner, which I think laurief has said is the way to do it for the best results.

I use wood pellets in a sieve tray, so this is a similar concept. With the wood pellets there is no odour, but they turn to sawdust so it's not just a tray of piddle sitting in the bottom.
The Smart cat box reservoir looks pretty small, might be ok for one cat. |
