my friend is pet sitting

So im on yahoo IM talkin to my friend who lives in Ga and she told me that she is pet sitting for her parents. So she is watching the dog.

Then she says *the cats take care of themselves*..so i said *they dont change the litter boxes * She says...* Yeah, but that doesn't have to be done every single day. maybe scoop it sometimes*

So i tell her that i clean mine every day. so her reply was...well you have 4 cats. She has 2 cats.

I was yelling at the IM message ...the litter box should be cleaned every day... not sometimes...

am i right on this??

sometimes i worry about her animals when she tells me things...

oh and shes not looking for her cat anymore(the one who got out a few months ago). im still mad at her for that.

Are you sure the two of you aren't having a misunderstanding about "cleaning" vs "scooping"?

Did her parents leave instructions for the cats? Hopefully she's scooping every day! Cleaning only needs to happen once every few weeks and I wouldn't expect a pet sitter to do a full cleaning unless I was gone for a LONG time.

i think she means scooping..which is sad for those kitties if shes only doing it sometimes. they live in an apartment too...so the smell cant be to good if its done only sometimes.

Ugh. If she means scooping, they're in trouble! I only have one cat and even I sometimes scoop a couple of times per day.

Let's hope her parents come home soon, and that isn't the norm for them!

I have 1 cat and I scoop every day. However, there are times it doesn't get scooped until the next day. Sometimes I am just too tired to deal with the litterbox.

I know some people don't scoop at all and just change the litter once a week. That's pretty gross if you ask me.

I scoop the box at least every day and we have only one cat.

We have 4 cats and 4 litter boxes. We scoop in the morning and in the evening. My daughter sat for a friend with 2 cats and they fill the litterbox to the rim and never scoop. They just change all the litter once a week. Out of habit, my daughter would scoop it at least once a day, and it was gross. She quickly discovered not everyone buys quality clumping litter. It's not really something you want to skimp on.

I have heard people say that cats take care of themselves and I think it's very sad considering how sensitive and loving they can be.

Wow, I'm sorry to say that your friend doesn't actually seem to be much of a pet person. My brother and sister-in-law are like that. I don't think they've ever taken their cat to the vet.

I have 2 cats, 2 litter boxes, and I scoop both boxes at least 3 times a day. The boxes get washed out and refilled about every 3 weeks.

I have 4 cats.. i scoop the 2 boxes every day. 3 times maybe more.. i dont really count. I also give the boxes a good scrub down. I dont keep track when i do that though. I clean then outside...but now that the weather is getting colder...it will be less because i use the hose to clean them.

I asked my friend how pet sitting went and she said it went well. Shes doing it again on friday. I wonder if she will clean the box then?..
