To me, I always talk to cats, no matter if they're mine, a friend's cat(s), or at any local pet store. Socialization is quite important, and that's why I do it. If I go to the local Humane Society, I greet the cats there as if they were my own. I always say "Hi Kids!" (That's what "Nanny" from "Jim Henson's Muppet Babies" would say when she walked into the Nursery), and most cats I've met just purr like mad when they hear me say that. I often ask them if they're good kids, and they rub their faces against mine, give me kisses, purr in my ear, and meow at me. Some cats I've met there will immediately know who I am, and they will run to greet me, and talk to me. Some cats can tell if you like them or not, so I try to be as social as possible.
