Default Why does my cat smell good?

When I smell his fur, it has a distinct scent, kind of a sweet slightly powdery scent. Actually, it's sort of like how a baby smells. What causes him to smell so good? He stays indoors 98% of the time. When I let him out, it's always supervised and lately I've been using a leash. If he decides to roll around in the dirt or grass, I wipe him off with kitty wipes (like wet ones) when we come back in. But this smell of his, it's different from the smell of the wipes. Is it his saliva that smells good? Because I know when I smell in his mouth it STINKS! LOL...

You know...I always thought I was crazy, and well, perhaps I am, but my cat Pfeffa has a nice, sweet smell too. Kind of like chocolate. She doesn't go out at all, and generally does not groom herself, so I don't know what that is.

I have a habit of rubbing my face into her fur (I don't know why, but she really likes it) and sometimes, she's just so sweet smelling.

I'm amazed as well at how it's possible for cats to be so clean. makes me wonder why Phoebe sings "smelly cat"...

cats really are quite an awesome pet. I remember I tried bathing myself with just spit for a day and let me tell you, that wasn't pleasant smelling.

...j/k.

Oliver has a distinct sweet smell too. But I have noticed when other people handle him who have perfume or lotion on them, it rubs off on him and then he smells extra sweet!!!

Tigger sometimes smells sweet too - I'm not sure why either.

I remember there was a thread like this one before.....haha...but I agree. My cats also have a distinct, but pleasant smell to them.

Give him a thorough brushing first to remove any loose hair so you don't end up with a ton of mats.

Or take him to a professional groomer.

Sabby also has a very nice, powdery smell, though I wouldn't say it smelled sweet. I love how he smells.

I have noticed the same about my kitties. I have reached the conclusion that they have picked up the scent from the blankies, comforters they are usually laying on - they smell like clothes softner. Once the vet told me that Cheerio smelled like fresh laundry . Plus Frosty loves to lay in the baskets with laundry all the time - more than my wittle Chee-Chee
