Taking food out of the dish

Does anyone else experience this?

Mixed in with the the dry food is a Hills Prescription Diet food that is in larger pieces than most cat foods. It's more like the size of dog food. Anyways, both Barnaby and Baxter take these pieces out of the dish and eat them over the floor whereas they eat the rest of the food over the dish.

I don't understand why but wondering if anyone knows why they do this or if anyone else's cats do the same.

I have no idea why they do it but I have noticed the two boys tend to take larger pieces of meat out of their dish and eat it on the floor also. Hawkeye once brought a piece over to me and lay it at my feet I think he was giving it to me as a pressie lol

My Bubba used to take a mouthful of food from the dish, spit it out on the floor and eat one piece at a time Not sure why, just a weird habit I guess.

Mellie does this, too, with dry food. She takes every single kibble out of the dish, drops it, then picks it back up to eat it. I have the bowl on a pet tray to contain most of the mess.

Yeah, Ariel does that too. She'll take a piece of food in her mouth, crunch it up, spit it out, and eat the pieces. I don't see how the food could be too big for her - each piece is the size of a pencil eraser! And Jasmine doesn't have any problem. Ariel does the same thing with treats too - I have to break them into small pieces before she'll eat them.

I haven't been able to find a solution for it - I've just gotten used to sweeping up all the little food bits around their bowl several times a day.

Khamun likes wet food with gravy rather than jelly, but seems to suck all the gravy off before eating it! He has all his teeth as he's only a 3 year old.

Ha, Baby did the same thing, silly kitty! Maybe because it is a bigger piece that she does this. She loves the gravy too and leaves some of the meat later to eat .

My girls tend to do this. They all crowd around the same dish (which makes sense, of course.... heaven forbid they use all the bowls provided), stick their heads in, grab a couple crunchies, take a step back, drop it on the floor, then eat.

They also tend to shake each one a little. Makes me wonder what sort of thing they were eating in their old home.
