Default new cat introducing to old cat...LOTS OF QUESTIONS!

my new cat who is 7 years old is sitting on the bed staring at my other cat and growling.
he lived with 6 other cats before so he does like other cats i just think its territorial.

my cat loves other cats.

I am keeping Twiggy out of my room and I feel very bad because she always stays in my room, I have a new litter box and food for my new cat and he stays in my room only until he gets used to the house.
Lately ive ben just leaving the door open a crack so they just stare at eachother but he growls, he also smells everything and rubs against it and his tail shakes. But he is not leaving anything? why does he do this? he is neutered. He is very sweet and he loved other cats where he used to live. I am letting twiggy in once in a while but I keep it supervised, she doesn mind him at all.

Hi Tasteofink: Just because your new cat lived with 6 other cats before does not mean he'll instantly like Twiggy. It will take a while for him to adjust to both his new home and Twiggy. However, the fact that he has lived with cats before, along with Twiggy's apparent response, suggests that the two will be friends in time. Marie has given you a link to a very good article, and if you follow those steps, you should be ok.

He is smelling everything simply in order to get used to his new home, and he is rubbing against things in order to leave his scent on them. If the end of his tail is shaking quickly, it likely just means he's excited...so that's good!! Have you figured out a name for him yet?

Keep paying attention to Twiggy!

It takes time. I didn't think I'd be able to keep Mia with Fay until after a month passed. Now they're frenemies. Fay bathes Mia constantly but gives her a little nip ocassionally wen Mia wants to play and Fay doesn't. No major problems at all.
