Default Strange question: but do cats masterbate?

Yes, I'm perfectly serious.

For about 2 years now, my male, fixed cat (who is 7) will stand on the couch or the chair or someplace usually where there's a blanket and knead with his back legs. He's usually really tense when he does it, and is purring. There will sometimes be a damp spot wherever he just was when I shoo him off the spot. And well, just by definition, and knowing that animals do indeed masterbate, I'm just wondering if this is what he's doing.

Also does anyone else have cats that do this?

Yes. Our BooBoo kitty has a fluffy blanket all his own that he 'loves'.
It is my belief that instinct drives this type of behavior. BooBoo is about 12-13yrs old and he has regularly engaged in this behavior only for the last 4yrs. By default, that blanket has become *his* and no one uses it. It gets washed a lot.

Same here. MowMow has a special teddy bear ...friend.... that gets washed a couple of times a week.

Do the animals pick their "special" ..er.. items? Or do you kind of encourage they use a special item? Because Cailan uses anything and it would be NICE If he stuck to just ONE item and I could wash it.

I'm not sure you could encourage use of a specific item ... it could just be 'cat preference' at work and you got unlucky. 0_o

My first cat, Enok, had an obsession for orange! He had a six-foot long stuffed orange snake that he would drag around and well, you know...... We had to stop using the orange bath towels, because he would pull them down and enjoy them, too.

When Johnny, the neighborhood cat, first showed up here as an unnuetered tom, he would sleep on his back on the sofa and have really good dreams. The first time I saw him having one, I thought he was having a seizure --- until I realized what he was doing!

My cat Fay was incorrectly spayed and when she went into heat she ...ahem...satisfied herself on my leg when I was in bed. She had a special fondness for my knee. Since the remaining ovarian tissue was removed she's been a good girl.

Kitter is neutered and his "special friend" is a pink feather. I have to buy a new one from the store every so often when his gets his...umm...dirty.

Grady only does this once in a great great while. The first time he did it, he did it to my arm. yes, my arm. He occasionally does it to my leg if I'm laying in bed. Most often though he does it to my blanket. It's always my things though and he only does it once in a GREAT while. I think it's his way of claiming me as his but it's not favorable when he does it ON me
