Default Cat Litter Deoderant

Hi guys,

I've just purchased a cat litter deodorant. As per the container's instructions, I am to evenly sprinkle the litter box with the powder every few days, and to mix it all up with the scooper. The fragrance is Lavender and is allegedly odor absorbent.

I'm a bit skeptical and I haven't used it yet. I only have one cat and I scoop the litter box twice daily. The litter box is in the bathroom where I keep the window slightly open for ventilation. The odor is more or less minimal but it would be nice if the litter box would be kept smelling fresh and flowery.

I'm a bit worried that if I start using it Shnaff (my cat) would stop using the litter box and would eliminate elsewhere instead.

Have any of you used anything similar? Were your cats put off by the smell?

I started using Canada Litter some time ago and my cats didn't notice the difference. It's scented, it has a lovely talc scent so their tushies both smell like baby powder now - beautiful...! The cat behaviorist who recommended it and uses it is dead set against any scented litter, so I assume this one is safe...

I use Fresh Step Clumping Litter and I dont have many problems with odor. The only time its bad is with her once a day dump. I have a Glad Plugin in the bathroom and it leaves a nice berry scent. Not too strong though. I very RARELY smell anything in my bathroom (Where her box is).

I also love the pine litter. We use Feline Fresh clumping. Virtually no scent except when little Apple does her daily business. lol The stench from that lives up to her Big Cat attitude. The bathroom where their litter box is located is attached to my bedroom and doesn't have a window so it's very important there is not even minimal kitty smell to ruin bedtime ambiance. hehe!

I'd worry that if the kitties were ever little averse, but healthy, that I wouldn't know if it was the litter, the deodorizer, the box, or some combo thereof. I'd rather keep it minimal and just have the litter & the box. I think for me I'd rather spend the extra dollar or 2 on the litter itself rather than on deodorizer too.

What litter are you using? What do you and/or your kitty like about it that keeps you using it?

I've also used the Arm & Hammer with baking soda, and find most litters with baking soda (either already included or buying baking soda in bulk and sprinkling it on myself) keep the box odor-free.

The only thing I've found that gets the litter box clean is the clumperdumper. It lets you pour out all the clumps and keeps the litter fresh. I have 3 cats and my middle guy is very particular. He'll stop using new litter after the 3rd or 4th day and my vet said it probably was because it wasn't clean enough for him. So I found clumperdumper online and it made a huge difference. It gets the clumps and the litter looks like new which means no smells.

I use Arm and Hammer and find no odors compared to when I used other brands and added deodorizer.

I use Arm and Hammer (Like others above) and it works well in normal litter. I would combine it with the Arm and Hammer litter and there would be no smell. (I live in a one-bedroom apartment so the litter box is in the bathroom, too.) I was afraid to get a cat for a while that the box would make the apartment smell, but so far no complaints! I also make sure I clean the box at least once a day or once every other day so the box doesn't smell.

I would also recommend this litter from PetCo: World's Best Cat Litter Original Formula - petco.com
It's known as "The best kitty litter" and it is pretty good. Tex seems to not mind it and it cuts back on odors a lot. I think I like it better than the clay because it doesn't have that clay smell.
