Have you tried to encourage his good behavior? In some cases it works better than the spray bottle. So when his doing well with the cat, give him a little treat (a piece of chocolate, his favorite toy like a GPS-navigator, or flash some leg). And if he missbehaves, the treat goes away.

If nothing seems to work on your husband, try to concentrate on the cat instead. He/she might be able to learn that it's only okay to scrach your husband. I've seen cases like this: a friend of mine teases their cats to the point where they scrach him, but the cats never attack anyone else or unprovocated.

Here is my 2 cents as a Husband. If he doesn't listen to you, chances are he is never going to! My words of advice to new husbands is this, Just do what she says, Life will be much better if you do. sometimes she is wrong, but always remember, Happy Wife, Happy Life! It takes more time to fight it than to just do it!

Don't just promise leg, this isn't 1872.

I know exactly what you mean, except... it is my husband who does this!! And every single day I have to go through the whole process of saying to him "I thought I already told you to toss them in the dirty clothes hamper which is just across the way? Now oyu're doing it again......." He just nods...... ANNOYINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

Leave them where they are and don't wash them. Maybe when he runs out, he'll get a clue.

What if the one leaving the dirty socks around the bedroom and under the duvet is my own self? It doesn't bother me less to find 7 pairs of dirty socks just because it's me who left them. I've tried the silent treatment, not talking to myself for a couple days - didn't work.

I have tried this too, but all the voices in my head have their own opinions.

Every week when we cleaned the house, my mother would be grumbling about the socks. So one day we changed the sheets on their bed, then I took dad's dirty socks and piled them up on his nice clean pillow case and pulled the top sheet over them. His pillow didn't smell very nice when he went to bed that night. Needless to say, he never left a pile of socks next to the bed again.
I just make things disappear. He wasn't doing dishes until he'd dirtied all of them and we had 3 sets of pots from mine, his, and my grandmother's leading to the sink, counter, and stove being covered in dirty pots that he let stuff dry and mold in. So one day every time I found the sink full of dishes that had begun to smell I started putting them in the storage shed. Soon he was out of pots. "Why is there nothing to cook with?" "Did you wash it and put it in the cupboard?" "no" "Then it's no longer here." Pots reappeared after agreement to wash them after dinner or the next day when there was time before dirtying anything else rather than grow science experiments until that particular pot is needed again.

Same with socks. He throws them all over the living room and occasionally some shirts. They go in a laundry basket in the small pet room that stores blankets and such for animal use. "Where are my socks?" "Did you put them in the laundry basket in the bedroom?" "no" "Then they are gone and if you don't want to keep paying for new ones start putting them away properly so I can wash them". I'll do the wash so long as it goes in the basket for me.
