For Buttons, it was shortly after her 7th birthday (last July) that she started to sleep more often and go out less.
When did your cat(s) go into retirement ? I've heard of some who never went into retirement, and kept on living like a kitten until their 20's, and I thought Buttons would be like that, but it appears she has decided to enjoy her old age with some relaxation! Of course, given the right persuasion, she can still revert back to her old self! |

MowMow is 8 this year and no retirement in sight. In fact he just charged across the desktop at warp speed to get to the window a second ago. Right over my typing hands.
Last night I had to get up and yell at both of them for charging around the place like elephants. Then I looked outside and saw my downstairs neighbor car was gone. So I joined in

Sherbert slowed down (a bit) around age 15 but didn't stop acting young til he was about 9 months before I lost him. At the age of 17 my vet swore he was about 8 years old, but she hasn't been around as long as he had. lol Both Pepper and Jack started slowing down around 14. the rest are still pretty young so got some time.

Samantha stop jumping onto the top of the Armoire at about age 10, I believe she got a little over weight (17 lbs) and could no longer make the leap.
Other then that she remained active until the day before she passed away. Chiquita is12 and quite active and tears around the house when she isn't sleeping on the sofa.

Retirement would indicate they put in at least one honest days' work in their lives.
I have cats of leisure. Although, I have to say Ninja is quite the busy little cat, always on the go with something he needs to do. But if you mean calmed down and relaxed, I'd say Sully did that about the time Ninja came along, so 3 years old. He's a full time snuggler/snoozer these days. But 9 year old Thurston and almost 2 year old Ninja are still going strong. |

We estimate Mimi at around 13 - and while she is very content to sleep or just lounge around - and in many ways acts her age - I was surprised when I got her at how much she loves to play as well! Although she will only play with her cat charmer or chase crumpled up paper balls across the floor when I throw them - she is an interactive player and doesn't seem inclined to entertain herself!

Within the last 12 months. Peggy still dashes around occasionally, but she sleeps a LOT more than she used to.
She's also a **** of a lot more vocal.

My cat at my parents house (Callie) went into 'retirement' when she was 8, around the time we had brought Lucky (RIP) home. Lucky was 5 when he passed and there was no sign of retirement in site for him lol
