Well I am adopting a cat,Sebastian is alone and loves company , also I want to give one a home. But im going to find out which ones are due to be put down,I know all of them at my local shelter can be,but theres some that are more high risk due to age, space, kittens etc. And most people choose kittens over adults or so iv noticed .
How should I introduce the 2 cats ? What should I do the first day he/she is home ? |

Well, just put him in front of Sebastian and watch the introduction.
There will probably be some hissing and slow moves, but nothing to be afraid of. If they would somehow started to fight, just pull them apart (but this doesn't happen often). Sooner or later, they will get used to each other. I had cats to whom it took like a day to get used to each other and then some whom it took a few months. It always depends of the character of the cat. |

Please don't just put them together. You can do irreversible harm not knowing how they'll react. Here's a great website, don't be afraid to go slowly:

Everyone on here gave me GREAT advice on how to slowly introduce cats (exactly what it says in the link Marie posted). I had a fantastic game plan and when I brought Book home I was READY. Then I just opened the crate and let them meet face to face instead of following advice.....
Over a year later and MowMow BARELY tolerate Book. I could have saved myself a year of stress for myself and for MowMow if I had just listened. Read the link and do what it says, do NOT just put them together and hope for the best. |

That was mostly because of the post above mine. Dogs are so much easier, aren't they?
