We have two homes, one in the mountains and one in the desert. We're in the mountains 4 days a week and in the desert 3 days a week. The desert can be hot (100+) in the summertime, and our 8-year old Meow-meow apparently does not like the heat; he'd hide under the bed for a good part of the day and show other signs of stress such as picking his hair off his belly while in the desert in the summertime, even when he is indoors (80 degrees).
Right now in the desert it's cool, his hair has grown back and he rarely hides under the bed. But what we're concerned about is; what do we do next summer? He's an indoor/outdoor cat; in and out throughout the day, and always inside the house at night. We basically have two options; leave him in the mountain home for 3 days and 3 nights, or bring him with us to the desert. I don't know which is the lesser of the two evils; we worry he may be lonely and/or bored if we left him for 3 days. We don't really know anybody that Meow-meow likes in the mountains to come check on him. What should we do? John |

One poster had a similar heat problem. I believe she bought ceramic tiles for her cat to lie on. You could also run a fan for your cat.
But if he is really physically miserable, and it sounds like he is, I would leave him home. |
