Default Does your cat know when you're sad?

If I am feeling sad or if I am upset and crying about something, my cats (especially Kittygirl) come to me and love all over me. I wonder why they do this? I think it is great that they can read me and want me to feel better--it works too!! I was just wondering if anyone else's cats do this.??

I read somewhere that animals can sense emotions. When my Grandpa was dying, my family was very close to him and we were very upset. It's like my dog could sense that because she would put her head in our laps and she NEVER does that. She was always there just sitting by us and licking us. What a sweetie.

I know animals can tell when you're upset. I used to have a cat, Oliver, that would try to "groom" my hair whenever I was crying - so precious! Oh, and when he passed away, my dog, Susie (whom is an outside dog) would beg to come in and lay in my lap...which actually was funny considering she's the size of a Dalmation. Anyways, I really do think animals can sense your emotions. I think it's just a gift God gives animals so they can comfort you when humans can't. (hey, my parents telling me I could get another cat when Oliver died was a nice, but failed attempt to make me feel better!)

My dad was recently in a bad motorcycle accident (hit a deer). The first day he was back home, Chester (his cat) was really keeping an eye on him. Normally Chester just LOVES to be held & hugged by my dad, but when Dad came home, Chester would just sit next to him on the couch. Anytime Dad would try to hold him, Chester would just go back to sitting next to him. I'm pretty sure Chester knew Dad was hurt and was afraid of hurting him more.

Aw, those stories are so cute. Animals are so precious!

When I'm upset, my cats will all come up and give me kisses and rub cheeks with me. Makes me feel better in no time.

Its funny since when Im really sad, Sugar will crawl next to me or sit there right by me when otherwise she would keep playing or sit in her little donut bed. I think cats can sense when your sad, happy, etc which is good..

Same thing happened with Holly (my cat) last week. I was in bed with bad flu, and about midnight Holly started doing a really sad whimper, and she wouldnt stop until she'd come and rubbed up to me.

I'll bet it was a love bite! My cats seem to know too, because they sit near me and give me "loves."

When I am crying, Jet will come over and purr to me softly and nuzzle against me until I cheer up (which doesn't take too long, as it's so sweet when he does that). If only those people who say cats are selfish unloving animals could witness moments like these!
