Hi,
my kitten is VERY hyper and loves to play. I want to start introducing her to the rest of my house when she is a lot calmer. When do cats become lazy, or calm? Ive hear after 9 months, to 15 months. Is it when they are adults? thanks a lot. |

They reach full maturity at 18 months, though they are sexually mature much, much earlier. Kittens play most furiously from about 6 weeks to six months, though this will vary from cat to cat and some calm down a lot earlier- though not completely..
The earlier you introduce the kitten, the better. Do not wait so long that it gets frustrated by being kept away. Also the smaller the kitten, the easier it is to assimilate it into a cat clan. You will see that although it is boisterous with you, it will most likely be much calmer when it feels itself on less-safe turf. Be there to re-assure both sides to begin with. You may need to intervene if the hissing and spitting is too vigorous. Main thing is for you to stay calm. I have never come across a domestic cat that would sink teeth into a new-commer; so the initial stand-offishness, no matetr how it is manifested, will fizzle out. Be gentle, but firm with the older ones and guide the baby on just how much 'bouncy' is acceptable. Remember that you are the Alpha cat in the house and they will depend on you to moderate and solve the whole 'dispute'. Best of luck, contact me if you need any more help, Zofia |

yeah, after a little while they get sort of more relaxed. They just start lounging around a little more. My cat used to be so hyper she wuldn't let me sleep! But now she's calm and cool. I guess it just takes time.

I was told here on the forums by Dr. Jean that a kitten becomes a full-fledged, mature adult at two years.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my own hyper boy calms down a bit sooner than that (have a whole year before he turns two). In the meantime, you might want to temporarily pack away those fragile household objects - or move them to a spot out of your cat's reach. Then let her have free range of the house. You could also try to tire her out with a daily, intense play time.
