Default Neutered male tring to mate with a non-spayed female.

I have 2 cats, both are about 5 months old, the male is fixed, and the felmale goes next week (I just adopted her, and it hadn't been done yet). I have noticed that he will jump on her back, bite her neck, and act like he is tring to mate with her. Is this normal, or did the vet maybe miss something. She isnt in heat, but is this something I should be worried about?

How long ago did you have him neutered? Males are still fertile for up to a week, from what I've heard. Other than that, I don't know why he'd be doing this if he doesn't have all his hormones, er, intact

He got snipped on the 9th, so it has been just over a week.

I'm not surprixed that he is trying to mate her, then. It takes time for the instinct and hormones to stop this behavior.

As long as she isnt in heat, there shouldn't be a problem with her getting pregnat is there? She is going this week to be fixed, so hopefully that will get rid of any problems.

My oldest cat been neutered since he was 5 months old. Yet when Dusty(who is now 2 and fixed) went into heat, he would try to mate with her. We got her fixed after her first heat, and it stopped. Just because cats are fixed doesn't mean they forget completely about mating.

My cat Ginger doesn't beleive he's neutered at all!
I don't know when he was fixed - I adopted him after someone abandoned him and he took up residence in the stairwell of my appartment building. The vet said he was about 2 years old when I adopted him and he's been with me for more than 2 years now.
Aside from courting female cats (he's an indoors/oudoors cat), he also 'mates' with towells, sweaters etc. I've given him a couple to use as sex toys. He'll also try mating with my arm when I'm wearing a sweater.
He's a real exhibitionist - he INSISTS that I watch him go at it. If I move to another room he'll come after me, dragging his sex toy with him and yowling all the way.

Are you sure he has been neutered?

That is hilarious!! I've never heard something like that with a cat!
My cats haven't been spayed yet, but we're planning on it.

The vet says he's neutered.
Ginger (obviously) disagrees.
What can I say?
