Default Tape doesn't work, any other suggestions?

I went out and bought double-sided tape to put on the top of the recliner, but it wouldn't stick to the fabric.

Stephen loves to lie on top of the recliner even while I'm sitting in it, which is fine, but she tends to run right over me when she starts playing, in order to get up there. This weekend my arms suffered some serious scratches.

Does anyone have other suggestions?

How about those plastic carpet runners with the plastic nubs all over them? I used to put them nub side up on the couch to keep the dog off. Who knows, they may work with cats.

Some cats don't like aluminum foil..........

I don't think the foil idea would work well on top of the recliner. Stephen would go to jump up there during one of her runs and she and the foil would probably go flying!

I might try the rubber mat idea, though.

Have you tried citrus scent eg rubbing lemon or orange peel on the area as cats are not keen on it. Have never tried it but have heard it works well as a deterrent. Has anyone else tried this?

If you don't have anything citrus scented, try Pine scented stuff. You could add a little pine-sol to a bottle of water and spray it on the chair.

They also make stuff that is basically thick double sided tape for pets called sticky paws. I used it recently to stop my cat from clawing my chair up. Works pretty well, just do let your hair get stuck to it.

I've tried sticky-paws on the side of my couch, but Kiera is just fascinated by it and starts chewing/pulling on it. No such luck for that method here... maybe I'll try the bitter apple stuff... the sides of my couch have so many dangling threads now
