Default Kitten wants to "get it on"?

We recently adopted a kitten from the local shelter and were told that our kitten, who we named Binx, was 4 months old. I've always read that cat's don't start puberty until about 6 months, but there are times when it looks like Binx is trying to mate with our 6 month old, neutered, kitten, Skeeter.

If Skeeter is laying down, Binx will come over to him, put his front paws on top of Skeeter, start kneeding, then get really close to him and bite on the scruff on the back of his neck. I've seen the male cats to this to the female cats, so I picked Binx up just now when I saw him doing this and turned him over...sure enough there was his little "thingy." Blech!

Since he is from the shelter, and was a stray, and we therefore can't be certain about his age...should I go ahead and get Binx neutered instead of waiting until we "think" he's 2 five months?

Is this behaviour normal in growing kittens? I just don't want Skeeter to feel like he's being molested!

Have you taken the new kitty in for a vet checkup? The vet would be the best person able to tell the age of the kitten.

I was told Scotty was around 1 year, but when he went in for his checkup, the vet determined his age to be 5-6 months by looking at his teeth. Also, his weight could really help figure that out as well. If he looks healthy and well fed, then his weight should equal his age in months up until 10 months. Unless he's a large kitty or small kitty, this could help as well.

Rain was 4lbs and he was 4 months old. Scotty is nearing 8lbs, but he's 8 months.

We took him for his checkup the day after we brought him home. Now that you mention it, they said that Binx was already teething...Skeeter didn't start teething until he was about 5 months old. Other than that, the vet didn't tell us anything specific. We were told he was 4 months, and that's what we told the vet. He didn't say any different, but... hmm.

I would bring him to a vet and get him to look at him. Since you did get him from a shelter there is absolutely no sure way to tell how old he is. However if you can post a picutre of him, i am sure i could have a better idea of his age as there is a significant difference in size btw a 6 month old and a 4 month old.
Since they are both males there is no realy emergency...you wont end up with a pregnant cat, but i woul dtake him to a vet a get it checked out.
It sounds like he is more than ready to be neutered, but i am not a vet, so i suggest you talk to one!
