Cats get "sore throats"?

My cat has recently started sounding funny when he meows. It sounds kinda lraspy and rattaly. Do cats get sore throats? could it be a respitory infection?
He sounds fine when he is breathing. and does not sneeze or cough. Any ideas?

Yes, but they aren't the same as human sore throats. The main concern is that there might be an ulcer caused by the calici virus, which is serious and needs medical care. It's also possible, but a long shot, that there might be something stuck in the throat. I'd say if you cat is acting normally, eating and using the litterbox normally, keep an eye open. If it doesn't get better or gets worse, then take your cat to a vet. :(

Thanks, as of now he is still acting normally. But I will keep an eye on it. Do you know if there are other symptoms assoociated with this virus that I should watch out for?

The calici virus is one of the Upper Respiratory viruses, so watch for typical signs of an URI -- sneezing, coughing, discharge from nose or eyes, inflamed or red eyes, listlessness, loss of appetite, change in behavior, etc. Maybe it's nothing, but it's good you noticed a change. A change in anything is never to be dismissed. :(

My kitty seems like he has a sore throat or something is stuck in his throat. I took him to the vet and they couldn't find anything??? He is constantly swallowing although he wouldn't do it at the vet, too afraid..Could it be a hairball?
