Default Gigi coughing but not passing hairball

About once a week he as this dry heave cough lasting about 15-30 seconds with body laying low and he seems to have something in his mouth afterward (possibly reswallowing it?)

I have yet to see a hairball pass through his mouth. I have not seen hairy stools.

I brush him regularly, give him vasoline once a week, and he eats, sleeps, drinks well with no changes.

Shoud I be worried that he is not passing anything and it is collecting in his system waiting to block?

Should I give him anything else? Am I just worrying too much?

I looked at other threads, but it seems hairballs are passing through the mouth or through poop...

Thanks,
Christina

When Cinderella does the coughing thing, she usually re-swallows it. When she actually coughs up a hairball, she makes the most awful noise in the world. Since I've moved into my new place, I've found very few hairballs, which makes me think she's coughing them up and I just haven't found them yet.

I've been seeing this too. It might be a hairball. It might be something else. When Twinkie does it, it seems like he's coughing up mucus and then swallowing it. This mechanism is involved in the life cycle of roundworms, so I have to wonder about that. But he's been dewormed (three doses.) Coughing could be a lot of things. Asthma, heartworms, for example. I suppose I'm just worrying you with all these descriptions. I just let it pass because in all other respects he's healthy. Maybe it's just one of those things you'll never know. OTOH, maybe you'll wake up tomorrow morning to a big fat hairball lying in the midst of a pool of vomit on the carpet.

Okay, I totally jinxed myself.

Just got home and, YUP, right in the middle of my BED! Lovely. Two special little gifts. Hairball and breakfast.

Ugh.

Doing laundry now.

Buh-bye!

Well Marie, it's just that she read your email and realized that you needed to be reassured that her system is working. What a considerate kitty!

I never thought that it could be bile I'm going to track and see if it happens at certain times like after eating. I guess I should relax and see if it becomes more frequent. Also, I better continue to wear my slippers in the house!

Thanks for such quick responses,

Christina

Yeah. She was just thinking of me! She missed our anniversary by one day. Silly girl!
