I usually get at least one fart a day from Nito. They are always SBD's (silent but deadly).

My two seemed to use farting as a defense mechanism when we first got them.... They weren't used to being picked up regularly, so I'd pick one up, and have to put her down because the smell would be so bad.
I was thinking the farting got better as they got used to us, but now that I really think about it I believe it IS the change to better food. Sometimes Fergie will still fart on my father-in-law when he tries to make her sit calmly on his lap and she's not interested. She doesn't do it to us, though, so maybe some cats DO fart for defense!

My Sassy cat was a stray. She always farts when she's nervous or upset.
It was the same thing though as the above poster mentioned, when we first got her, she tooted everytime you picked her up, clipped her nails, brushed her, bathed her...she was a regular tooting machine. But it was because she was scared. She'd never lived with people before. She's finally gotten used to people and now she saves her nervous toots for trips to the vet. On topic, I agree that it's probably the contents of the SD food that account for the farts in this case. Wellness is way better... |

This thread is tooo funny!
I am glad to hear that it is somewhat normal for cats to fart. I've never had a gassy kitten up until we adopted Tilly. She actually farted on us the moment we picked her up at the shelter and has never stopped since! It has calmed down since we have switched her over to Iams (she was on purina kitten intially) but still lets 'er rip' atleast once a day! |
