Hey everyone,
Just a quick question. I'm kind of stumped. We have a 10 week old kitten. We brought here home when she was 8 weeks old. We had her on the Wellness kitten formula, for both wet and dry food. Ive been feeding her the wet food twice a day, and leaving out the dry food for her to snack on. When I went to the petstore last week, the Wellness kitten wet formula was NOWHERE to be found. So i decided to switch up to Science Diet. So she has been on that for a week, really enjoying it, her poo is fine. Just this weekend however, she has been farting non-stop. It happens mostly when we pick her up, and BOY are they smelly. Now I'm reading online that Science Diet isnt a good brand. Could it be this brand, or is this a normal kitten beahaviour?? please help. I want to stick to a good brand, and one that I can easily get at a store near-by, since we do not have a car. ANY help or suggestions would be great! |

It could be the brand. I think SD is pretty heavy in nonmeat ingredients. Grains and veggies can lead to farting in almost every type of creature that generally eats meat (ask any of my vegetarian brethern
OTOH, some critters are just gasy. Sometimes it doesn't matter what you feed them, they're just little farting machines. I ad a dog like this, led to some very funny situations where she'd look at her bottom and then get up and move like she hadn't done it.

My two foster kittens had bad gas the first few weeks I had them. I think it was a combination of parasites (worms) and diet change.

Clears throat. Back to the topic at hand.
Yes it absolutely could be the food. It could also be the sudden food change. Kittens are notoriously sensitive to that. OR it could be parasites. I'd start with getting her back on the Wellness. It's a WAY better food anyway. SD is full of garbage (IMHO). If your local pet store carries Wellness (or sometimes even if they don't) I'm sure you can order a case or two ahead to make sure it's there when you need it.

Thanks everyone..
seems the gas problem has been reduced down to one SMELLY fart a day. Ya, I think I want to put her back on wellness, since it seems like her litter was also less smelly! *heading over to the behaviour forum to post more adventures with Kai* |
