Default Ear wax

Do I need to worry about ear wax in my girls? Fergie is very attentive to Fern's ears, so Fern never has any, but Fern does not return the favor and clean Fergie's ears, so sometimes I see little waxy dots in her ears, down far enough that I think she has trouble getting the wax out herself. In the seven months I've had them I'm just noticing this for the second time, and the first time the wax disappeared after about a week. I don't know if Fern finally decided to be a good sister and clean Fergie's ears or if Fergie finally managed to get it out on her own. I can't see her letting me stick a q-tip in her ear, so I'd much rather just let it be unless it doesn't go away after a couple of weeks.

Could be ear mites maybe. Instead of using a q-tip, which could be dangerous, get a tissue and put it around the end of your finger and clean the inside of her ear, that's what I had to do after my kitten was treated for easr mites because he still had some ear wax left over.

Be very careful NEVER to put any liquid into your cat's ears unless specifically directed by your vet to do so. There can be very serious consequences to cleaning a cat's ears with any sort of liquid ear cleaner.

The smart thing would be to take her to the vet, find out exactly what you're dealing with. Ear mites, ear wax, infection, the vet can determine this and recommend an effective treatment.
Kind of an update:the nasty, smelly drops worked,Percy's ears are back in the clear!

I'm pretty sure at this point that it's just wax - Fern is lazy about helping Fergie keep her ears clean, but it seems like about a week after I notice the wax she must decide it's finally time to do her sisterly duty because the spots disappear. And ear mites are contagious, right? Fern's ears are always spotless, since Fergie dedicates about ten minutes a day to each of her ears and actually leaves them WET when she's done. If it was mites I'd be seeing the same thing in both their ears, and it wouldn't go away?
