So we don't take the cats to the vet every year, I'm not sure how I feel about it but it's not my decision anyway, I'm not the one paying. obviously if they ever showed signs of illness we would take them but otherwise we go every once and a while (of course we go when we first get the animal).
Neko got all his shots when he was a kitten, he has just turned five and we think it's about time for a check up again. I want to know how over weight the vet thinks he is and how bad his teeth are, that sort of thing. Plus just to make sure he's healthy. I was wondering about vaccinations and whether or not you would get your five year old cat, who was vaccinated only as a kitten, his vaccinations again now or whether you would wait until later or never get your cat any vaccinations past kitten ones. Neko (and Willie) is an indoor cat only and has no known health issues beside being a bit overweight. |

I have owned Martha since 2006, she has only gone in for vaccinations once. That is because I also fostered kittens, so I wanted to make sure she was protected as she did interact with them often.
My male, Jethro, I've had indoors since January, and just got his vaccinations in August...ONLY because the apartment complex we moved into required proof of vaccinations for the cats. Otherwise...I really had no plan of getting them. Since the vet here believes Jethro is 8-10 years old, this round of vaccines is probably going to be his only. Martha is guessimated to be around 5 years old, and I would probably vaccinate her again in the future if I felt a need to do so. Since I do not foster kittens at this point in time, and have no plans of any cats/kittens entering the household...I don't know if I'll see a need to continue the vaccines or not. Heck, Rabies was only done because it's the law. LOL ++Both of my cats are strictly indoors. If they were allowed outdoors, the vaccine question would probably be given a different answer!++

My cats are indoors and only get their kitten shots and one booster at a year. I don't vaccinate them after that. They do go in for their annual physicals though.

The vaccine that my cats have received is the FVRCP vaccine.
FVR Stands For Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis C Stands For Calicivirus Infection P Stands For Panleukopenia I do not accept the Leukemia vaccine, since my cats are strictly indoors and I have heard that it shouldn't be given unless they are at risk, since it is a live vaccine and there is a small chance they can actually get it from the vaccine.
