My cat Memo is strictly indoor and he had worms almost a year ago (he already got treated for all of them) and since then he has had perfect bowel movements. But on Monday, I took him to the vet to get his ear mite medication Revolution. I came home and applied it then he was a little mad at me so I gave him a handful of cheap dry food that I keep for the stray cats and he ate all of it. Then for dinner, when I wasn't home, my mom accidentally gave him one ounce of raw organs, which I think is too much for one serving. The next morning he was having loose stools. He has like 4 small loose stools throughout the day. And his activity seems pretty much the same. So is his appetite.
I know it's a big no no for a raw fed cat to be eating dry kibble but I've given him handful of cheap dry food before. He's had even more than that before as he likes to tear up the bag sometimes. And he's also been given a little too much organ before. This never happened. What could it be? It's been two days already. It's Thursday today. I'm thinking I should wait till Monday before taking him to the vet if it continues, as long as anything doesn't worsen. What do you think? Last edited by catlady2010; 10-21-2010 at 06:17 AM. |

The combination of the foods he's not used to plus the stress of the vet visit may be responsible for the loose stool. It doesn't sound severe, I would just monitor and see how it goes. You could add some acidophilus, pumpkin or slippery elm to his food.

I agree with doodlebug. It sounds like a combination of stress and diet (esp. too much organ meat). Withhold the organ meats and no more kibble until his stool firms up again. As doodlebug recommended, acidophilus, pumpkin and/or slippery elm added to his food should help regulate his system again.
