I have a new rescue kitten (1.5 months old) whom I got on Wednesday from our local animal rescue organization where I volunteer by offering a temporary home and helping find new owners.
Now the kitten has a clean bill of health regarding infections, ear mites and such and is very, very energetic, eating well, pooping and peeing regularly, with good consistence. However, she also has a very large bloated belly and a rather dull coat - parasite infestation, of course, since she was born to a stray mother and lived on the street until she was 1 month old. She was given a de-wormer when I picked her up on Wednesday at the local vet clinic, but the belly is not showing any signs of decreasing in size. I realize it's only been two days but to be honest, I've never had a kitten so badly infested with worms so I'm not sure what to expect. On our way home from the clinic, she did throw up a bit (approximately 20 minutes after getting the de-wormer) but I only saw some chunks of kitten food and it was not possible to tell if the de-wormer came back up as well. Should the worm-belly disappear at a faster rate than this? Do you think she threw up the de-wormer and I should give her some more? However, this would be rather dangerous, if I were wrong since the proper time for administering another dose is 10 days. Ideas? |
