Well last night, I witnessed Egypt spitting up some clear saliva (this was about 2 hrs after dinner) and then something was coming out of her mouth. It looked like her tongue was coming out (something darkish color) and then she swallowed it back up. Whatever it was, it wasn't small (maybe the width of my finger). There was no retching and no spasming...it just came right up and went right back down just as easily.
She's been playing fine and eating and acting like her normal self. However, about a week or so ago, her tummy was feeling really off and one night she actually would not eat. I let her sleep it off and the next day, she was fine. There's been intermittent diarrhea, but mostly one normal poop and some pasty stuff at the tail end of it. Her poops are very smelly since she's been going through this. At first, I thought she was just eating too fast, which makes total sense if you could see her eat, but last night, I gave her meat with bones so she could not scarf that down. She had to take her time and break down the bone. So now, I am wondering if it's a hairball? I have never seen her bring one up or if it's some kind of parasite or something else? I ordered some Fortiflora for her. I figured her stomach has just been off for a bit and it might help. I will also start doing the regular petroleum jelly thing since I must confess I have never found a need to. I figured if that doesn't work then another trip to the vet is warrranted.

Does she have access to outside to eat wildlife. Has she been wormed? It sounds like it could be roundworms, sometimes they are vomited up. If she does vomit a worm, take it to the vet to have it ID'd. Have a vet check her out.

She doesn't go outside. The only wildlife she's had access to were some seasonal roaches earlier in August or so in the house. She hasn't been dewormed since I adopted her back in June.

The Vet saw her tonight and said he believed her raw feeding is diagreeing with her at night. I should feed her canned in the evenings and raw in the mornings. He also gave her some medication for her to take for a week to treat the diarrhea and vomiting.
Other than that, he said she's in perfect health...so we'll wait and see. I am just glad it wasn't anything serious.

Auntie,
He wasn't opposed to her being raw fed. He just felt her stomach would tolerate it better if it were the first meal of the day (more time to digest it before sleeping and more time to work it out during play) vs. the last one of the day....kind of like some people can't eat dairy first thing in the morning, but they can tolerate it after they eat something else. He actually was very impressed at her overall health and complimented her several times on her teeth and coat. She did not have any plaque on her teeth whatsoever, which he said is a bit uncommon to what he usually sees every day considering she's already 3 years old. He just felt she has a sensitive stomach, but he did not think it was an allergy or blockage. He recommended the raw in the morning (same food as I have been giving her) and a light canned meal at night. He also gave her some antibiotics to kill all the bad bacteria in her tummy. I feel lucky that this Vet practice is on board with the raw feeding because yes, you are absolutely right in saying a lot of Vets do not support feeding your cats this way.

Would you mind keeping us informed as to Egypt's condition? Raw feeding is considered such a radical and dangerous practice by most of the population that few raw feeders are willing to talk about real problems they might run into. Thanks! AC
