Default PU surgery and UTIS

Kitty just had PU surgery. I have been told he is now prone to getting UTIs because of the way the anatomy is changed. Others who have had cats with this done - what are your experiences with this? Did your cat have a lot of UTIS?

Besides canned food diet / raw diet which increases water intake, what can be done to prevent UTIS in a cat?

As a human, i have had issues with this matter myself. I have taken D-mannose, a simple sugar that helps prevent bacteria from coating the bladder lining. Has anyone ever given this to a cat with success?

My vet threatened Mow with this. He's had 3 and I've been told the next time we're looking towards PU. It horrifies me.
