This is the only OTC de-wormer for cats I would trust though it is for treating Tapeworms.
The active ingredient (23mg praziquantel) is the same vets prescribe in the products called Droncit and Drontal. ![]() Pyrantel Pamoate is used to treat hookworms and roundworms. Anthelmintics and strongid products can also be used, dose-appropriate for the pets' size. I do not know if there are any OTC cat products with PP, anthelmintics or strongid ingredients. My searches turn up a Praziquantel/Pyrantel-Pamoate combined product called Drontal. My vet gave me Panacur (fenbendazole) to treat my litter of kittens for internal and microscopic (giardia) parasites. I can *find* Panacur/fenbendazole for purchase online, but I notice prices are in 'pounds', not dollars so I'm not sure if we can purchase this product OTC in the US.

I've never had an animal that as picked up worms... that I know of. How do cats pick them when they're indoor only? Does that mean people gave it to them...? Ick. I just don't like thinking about this kind of thing. At all. I imagine most people don't... worms are the type of thing I'd rather have and just, you know, never see...
I hope Forte gets better soon!

Thanks, guys! I have another, secondary worry. Right now the cats have a litterbox in the guest bathroom (specifically, in the bathtub). I was going to move it to the laundry room and then clean out and bleach the bathroom so that our guests could shower in there.
Will it be unsafe for them to use the bathroom (like walk barefoot in it and shower in it) when the cats have had accidents/drippings outside of the box and possibly gotten roundworm eggs or whatever in the tub? Will a bleach solution kill roundworm eggs? I have to know if I am going to tell the guests that they have to use the downstairs bathroom during the night and our bathroom to shower in. |

Your guests should be fine. Eggs are just eggs and can't hatch outside a host, unlike hookworm eggs which can hatch in soil and burrow into the skin of bare feet! YUCK! Just throughly clean the tub and wash or just replace any bath mats etc.

Clean the bathroom as you plan and you'll be fine. Roundworm is transmitted by injesting the roundworm eggs (kids playing in sandboxes and putting their fingers in their mouth, etc.). If your bathroom has been cleaned, your guests will be fine to use it.

Thats HILARIOUS! I never thought about cleaning the litter box during a deworming.... When is the best time to do it? The first dose of dewormer or the second dose 2 weeks later? or is it not even that important?
