This morning she vomited; it was yellowish with not much solid material since she had not been fed yet for the day. She has not vomited since, but she was not interested in eating much of her lunch. It was the same thing she had last night (raw chicken thigh) which she had eaten then, no problem. This evening I've found that she has been pooping small amounts of soft stool, and her anus looks inflamed. I don't know if it's because of the stools or the fact that she keeps licking the area. Sabrina can also tell that Sidonie is not feeling well... she's taken on the role of the bully for the day, when it's normally the other way around. I'm keeping them apart from each other now for health reasons.
I'm going to see how she does tonight, with her dinner and any further poops she may have. Do you think it's vet time? What could be wrong with her? Think perhaps the chicken thigh could have made her feel badly?

I know nothing about raw feeding, so I can't say whether the chicken might be the cause. If she continues to vomit and/or the soft stool turns to diarhhea, I'd take her to the vet...otherwise, I'd just keep an eye on her. I hope she's feeling better soon.

As of now it's still just soft stool then, and she has not passed any for several hours.
BUT... she ate her dinner with gusto (turkey) only to vomit it all up an hour later. When I cleaned the stuff up, it included a rather large hairball. Hard to tell if she vomited because she's not feeling well or just because she had a hairball.

Update: she definitely has diarrhea, she just went potty and there were definitely spurting sounds. My poor baby. She's drinking water, I'll continue to monitor her and see how she does with her meals and elimination tomorrow. Unlikely that I'll be able to get her into the vet before Monday anyway.

Since the cats and I are new to raw feeding, I can't help but worry that I'm doing something wrong. All surfaces and utensils are washed with warm/hot water and dish detergent between uses, and all meat is frozen and thawed before feeding. I would say this would be nearing the end of our 1st full month of exclusive raw food. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, sanitary-wise.

I like to give my cats some coconut oil to help get rid of hairballs.
I have some Probiotics with Digestive Enzymes that I sometimes give my cats. One of them has a touch of loose stools right now but it usually goes away. Feeding them raw liver and raw eggs can cause or add to loose stools / diarrhea. |
