Does your vet board animals? They may take it. Most any rescue would probably also take it. There are some sad stories on Craigslist with people asking for food for their pets, too. Yes, I know some of them may be scams, but.....

When I obtained Athena she did the SAME thing. Well, minus attacking tissues and such. I found her in a parking lot at a walmart and when I brought her home she freaked out at food. I started feeding her little at a time until she was used to having food but it didn't stop. Anytime a can of anything was opened she was there howling and it got to the point where she would jump up on the counter and try to get to it. Checkers is a finicky eater so she's no help to your situation. Grady is on the heavy side but he doesn't over eat in any way. My cats are on dry food, they only get canned food as a treat once in a while but they go crazy over the stuff. I think Athena was like that when I got her because she hadn't had steady food as she was a stray but even months after that she kept doing it. Still to this day if you open a can of anything she is around crying but she has learned not to jump on the counter to get it and she has learned to wait if the can is for her. I've never had a cat do things like that so I can't really offer up suggestions but it very well could be something to do with his thyroid by the sounds.

You're lucky your cats like wet food, it's much healthier and better for them if they'll eat it. I give mine kibble as a treat, not wet food. Here's an article explaining more:

I have increased feedings and started giving him raw chicken wings when he gets all crazy. How do I get him to eat it in the kitchen and not carry it off to the couch or bed to eat it (Where's the vomit emoticon when you need it)
Thyroid test came back normal. He's been in rare form lately, but Ive been gone a lot as my Mom has been in the hospital and I've been working lots due to the holiday. I've been home most of the day today and he hasn't destroyed a single thing! Maybe he just misses me? |

Some other suggestions.....Have you tried smearing his canned food over a plate? This will definitely slow down his eating to have to lick it off, rather than gulp it down. The only other thing is to keep anything like tissues or paper towels put away in a drawer or something he can't get at them, like plastic storage containers. As for your pasta and rice, you could keep them in storage containers as well or in a cupboard with "baby" locks on it. Hope something works as I know how frustrating it can be to come home to a mess.
