Default Stinky Kitty While Cleaning

Hey all,

I have a bit of a weirder issue with my cat. Generally, she smells fine, but when she's cleaning herself, I can immediately tell even if I can't see her. How? Her smell is RANCID!

I assume it's her breath, but when she lays next to me for me to pet her or when she sleeps next to me, she's fine. It's only when she cleans herself.

Any ideas? Thanks!

It could be a variety of things....

It could be a low quality food causing her to give off foul odors.
It could be a tooth problem.
It could be an abscess somewhere on her body that she's licking and is badly infected.
It could be a litterbox not kept clean and she's smelling the rancid odor on herself and cleaning after she's come out.....

Need more information to make an informed hypothesis.

Have you sniffed around to locate the source of the odor? Open up her mouth and check her breath? That's a good place to start. She shouldn't smell bad and certainly not rancid.....

It sounds like it's her anal sacs. She seems to be trying to express them herself. Mention this to your vet and look it up online. Some cats have problems with expression them.
