My 1 year old kitty has black spots on his gums and a little black spot on his nose. I also noticed them on his eye lids. What can they be?

Well, my experience is limited, but I've never observed it except on orange cats.
Part of that may be to camoflage due to darker coloring of other cats, but I have observed it to be common and not harmful to orange cats. Anyone else observed this? |

They're harmless. I call them "ginger spots". They're quite common on orange (ginger) cats, and they often increase in number as the cat ages. Common places are around the eyes, gums, noses, foot pads, foreheads. Robbie has so many around his eyes, he looks like he splotched his mascara.

MowMow has lots of them on his gums. I asked the vet about them at one point and he said not to worry about them.
I hope he doesn't get them on his perfect little pink nose or his little pink puddie pads

All of our orange kitties have "freckles" and they are harmless areas of concentrated pigment. Watch and note any changes, like open sores ... otherwise they're nothing to worry about. None of our orange kitties have ever had any issues from their freckles.

I've always called them freckles. My orange cat has them on his nose and on his gums. I've never heard that they're anything to worry about.

Ditto. Here's a picture of Murphy that shows his freckles. (None too flattering picture, but you can see the freckles all right.) I've heard they get more of them as they age. He also gets feline acne, which looks like a blob of dirt on his chin that goes away by itself. Another thing not to worry about, I'm told.
