Default Worried about Chica... yet again :-(

Chica is the sickly one of the bunch, coming down with URIs at least twice a year. In the past we've just done a course of Clavamox and that clears it up. And that's exactly what I did this time except it did not work. Her normal vet wanted to just do yet another bottle of Clavamox without even looking at her again. So I decided to bring her in to my own clinic to have her looked at (should have done in the first place, way cheaper anyways!) We're going to try a new antibiotic plan (Doxycycline) but what was discovered today concerns me a lot.

Dr. Casey noted she only has congestion/infection in one nostril. This apparently is a concern because in a "normal" URI she should have congestion in both. Being in one nostril can indicate bigger problems, such as a polyp or even a tumor If the Doxy doesn't work, we may be going further- sedating her and taking xrays to see what's really going on. If it is indeed something more, the possibility of her needing surgery was mentioned. It being something more might explain why she's always getting URI's...

I've always known my baby can be a sickly little girl but now I am really worried. I am just praying it's a simple URI and that it will clear right up like it always has. I am fortunate to work where I do though- if she does need further work, I will get it for dirt cheap at least. (They only charged we $1.50 for my whole visit today, the cost of the doxy)

Hopefully it's nothing serious.

We've been dealing with a similar issue with Jitzu for over a year. She's constantly sniffly. Sometimes it's better, sometimes it's worse. It usually imporves when I give her l-lysine for a few weeks, but it hasn't worked this month. I'm going to take her in this week or next week to get it checked again.

She got really sick last March, and as she was improving the vet said she might get permanent damage in her sinus cavity for it...unfortunately I think that's what happened. She never recovered completely. My poor sniffly girl...

I hope you get a better report on Chica. Give her some extra lovin' and maybe she'll feel a bit better, lol.

Yep, Chica is always sniffling. And I have given her L-Lysine too, when its clear discharge. But this time it's very green, indicating something bacterial so I'm not even bothering with the L-Lysine. I am just hoping it clears up, I really would hate for this to be something even more complicated

I hope it's something simple and she's feeling better soon.

Poor Chica!

Our Elliot has always been the most sniffly of the bunch, with green/yellow goo from his eyes and nose. LLysine, Vitc C, Elderberry extract have worked for him, but we always need to use BNP to get his eyes to calm down.

Vitc C... does that equal Vitamin C? Can you give me more info about that and the Elderberry extract. I'm willing to try some new things, it just might work for Chica!

Kelly how much of each do you give your kitty? Jitzu so miserable lately that I want to try some other things. She takes meds easily, so giving her a few at a time won't be an issue.

Also, how quickly do you see a change???
