I opened a brand new can of Wellness Chicken (12 oz) and it seems REALLY soupy when compared to the canned Wellness Turkey (which was thicker and meatier). I did mix the can and it still was pretty soupy. The Turkey was thick and more solid.
Could something be wrong with it? |

On topic: Yeah, it sounds like something is wrong with that can and you should contact the manufacturer.
Very offtopic: That seems like the perfect food to feed. I would rather feed something from a company that was recalled voluntarily than a company who never said a word and hid any problems. The only reason for the recall is they realized that food made on a particular day did not contain enough Thiamine. This would only be a problem if fed long term and not in any way dangerous to the people who bought that single batch missing the lacking vitamin. I say good on Wellness for stepping up and admitting their problem and resolving it. Support of companies like that is what will help change the pet food industry.

If you don't feel right about a can of food throw it away and contact the manufacturer. It is better to look paranoid to the company and lose $1 than have your cats get botulism or something scary.
Wellness recalled voluntarily and they fixed the problem, there is no issue with feeding it.

I called and they said it was OK. The reason it is more soupy is that probably in the batch it got the more liquid part of the mix, that is what they said.
As far as the recall, it was for a vitamin issue and it was recalled voluntarily by them. 95% of other companies would NOT do that. That speaks highly of Wellness and their brand reputation. |

I 100% agree! The recall actually made me like the company more, as strange as that seems! How many human food companies wouldn't even be that honest about something they probably could have gotten away with??

This might sound silly but I knew someone who made a mistake with their chicken cans so just wanted to check to make sure you hadn't made that same mistake.
When you say Can of Wellness Chicken? By chance is it this can? ![]() This is used for dogs as a topping to dry food. It sometimes gets mistaken for cat food. This is a rather soupy mixture kind of like what you described. I sometimes use this or the Salmon version as a topping for my Golden Retriever. Its a common mistake and thats why I thought to mention it. |
