Default Eye Question

Yesterday I took in four kittens to find good homes for from a farm type setting and they were all doing fine. Today, I just checked on them and one has it's eye pasted shut with a little bit of discharge. I was wondering what I could do to help open it's eye up and clean it.

VET...doesn't take much of an infection to cause a kitten's eye to rupture...VET

I was just wondering if there was something I could do at home right away. But thanks.

A wam, damp compress held gently against the kitten's closed eye should help soften up the gunk so that the eye can be gently cleaned with a warm, damp cloth. Of course that won't cure the infection, but it will help the kitten open his eye.

It's likely a viral herpes eye infection, in which case sprinkling about 250 mg of L-lysine into his food daily should help him battle the infection into remission. If it's a bacterial infection, though, he'll need eye antibiotics from the vet.

In either case, a vet exam should help diagnose and properly treat the eye.
