Default My kittens prefer drinking out of bowls over drinkwell fountain

Does anyone else have cats that do this? Even after cleaning and replacing the filter, aster and Cody will choose the bowl of water next to the drinkwell. It's the original one. Maybe it's too loud? I find this puzzling as I was told cats like moving water and not still water.

Kitties always have to reject the expensive things you buy from them and be completely happy with the free of cheap things lol

This was a huge pet drama thing for us last month. I was reading about water fountains and how much healthier they are for older cats. We bought Sasha one (she is 15). You would have thought I wanted her to drink sand =/ she HATES IT. She looked at me, looked at it and gave me a dirty look and stormed off. She even lowered herself by drinking out of Bentley's water dish Of course Bentley, being a water dog, LOVEs the new fountain but err...he blows bubbles and paws at it making a big old mess!

The kits do drink from it and also make a mess playing in it. Every day one of the animals has made a big old puddle on the floor next to it. The first 8 or 9 times it happened I thought our fountain was leaking lolol

SO hmmm... I know many cats like them but for our family I could do without one. Sasha is allergic to it and Bentley and the kits think its splash fest!

I've never even considered getting one. Everyone but Gigi drinks water out of a bowl just fine. Gigi must drink water, but I rarely see it. Part of the reason I give her "soup" to eat.

Plus, I know Charlee would play in it all day. She goes through phases where she just loves playing in the water, then she jumps in the litter box and I have to chase her while she's running around with breaded kitty legs.

That's why I bought it, I rarely see Sasha drink. She does get canned so I know she is getting fluid but she is old and has always been a picky light eater so I wanted to encourage more water. The fountain did the exact opposite.

I am sure there are families in which the fountain works wonderful. My family? Bentley and the kits think of it as a toy and make messes all the time. I won't buy another one. I guess Sasha has drank from a regular water dish for 15 years and has never became dehydrated

Well, the water level in Gigi's bowl goes down, and it gets dirty, so I know it's from her drinking after she eats, because little bits of food are in there. I just don't hang out in her room so I don't see it. And she doesn't just get mushy food, it's truly soup, LOTS of water and she loves it.

I tried that a while back and the little brat drank all the fluid out, leaving the food lol

Normally a cat doing that wouldn't be an issue but getting food down her for the past 11 years (we adopted her when she was 4 or 5) is a fight. She has always been slim and all fluffy fur.
I used to worry so much about her not eating until 1 day I just came to realize that is how she is. Before the kits came it was a good day if she ate 1/2 a can.

The funniest thing has started to happen however the past few weeks
Sasha has become extremely interested in food and gobbles her food down and doesn't leave leftovers! This started about the time we brought the kits home.

LOL! oh what a pain that must be. aster just discovered she loves hopping in the shower after we come out, and yesterday she went straight to the litter box after that. and omg clay clumping litter is a pain to get off of kitty paws and legs! another reason for me to consider making the switch to natural...

yay! it's great to see them eating with gusto. last week aster and cody would turn their noses to at least one meal a week, but i think they were still recovering from their vaccines. i was getting worried they were getting picky but now their appetite is back in full force - they are eating twice as much as they used to! we got some hungry kittens in the house now.
