Default Tobys biopsy results

OK, well the bad news is that its cancer.

The good news, however, is that its not the oral squamous cell carcinoma I was dreading. It is instead oral osteosarcoma which has a far more positive outlook. If it comes back (and, as far as we are aware, all the tumour was removed on Monday) the prognosis is 6-12 months. Which is clearly rather grim but a lot better than an almost certain reoccurance and prognosis of 1-2 months with the squamous cell carcinoma.

It all looks good at the moment - Toby went for a post-op check up today and the tissue all looks healthy and normal and is healing very well. He has to go back in a week for another examination and then I guess its wait and see after that.

Heres hoping.

In the meantime - I'm kinda considering getting some of these.

Has anyone had any experience with alternative therapies? I've always been wary but I guess they cant do any harm at least, yes? Any thoughts much appreciated.

p.s. I think I've finally found a vet I'm happy with. They are pretty expensive compared to the one I have been going to but they have been excellent so far.

Other than what we have already done? Not a lot. Chemotherapy wont work and there is no proof that radiation therapy will either. Plus, the tumour site is at the top of the mouth so near Tobys brain - a obvious worry radiation therapy wise.

I guess if it comes back, we could try more surgery but thats about it I'm afriad.

I'm glad to hear that he's okay for the time being. Your poor baby Toby deserves a break!

He sure does, Kristen. I am realistic about it all but at the moment he is fine - and I plan to give him plenty of love and spoil him rotten

I'm glad you got a little bit of a reprieve. You may remember me mentioning that Callie had a similar prognosis with the fibrosarcoma she had on the top of her head....chemo and/or radiation were not really options, so I didn't do anything beyond removing it. I was told 6-12 months and it would come back more aggressive and spread quickly. I lost her 3 years later to something unrelated. So...keep positive and spoil him (like I have to tell you that )
