OK, well the bad news is that its cancer.
The good news, however, is that its not the oral squamous cell carcinoma I was dreading. It is instead oral osteosarcoma which has a far more positive outlook. If it comes back (and, as far as we are aware, all the tumour was removed on Monday) the prognosis is 6-12 months. Which is clearly rather grim but a lot better than an almost certain reoccurance and prognosis of 1-2 months with the squamous cell carcinoma. It all looks good at the moment - Toby went for a post-op check up today and the tissue all looks healthy and normal and is healing very well. He has to go back in a week for another examination and then I guess its wait and see after that. Heres hoping. In the meantime - I'm kinda considering getting some of these. Has anyone had any experience with alternative therapies? I've always been wary but I guess they cant do any harm at least, yes? Any thoughts much appreciated.

p.s. I think I've finally found a vet I'm happy with. They are pretty expensive compared to the one I have been going to but they have been excellent so far.

Other than what we have already done? Not a lot. Chemotherapy wont work and there is no proof that radiation therapy will either. Plus, the tumour site is at the top of the mouth so near Tobys brain - a obvious worry radiation therapy wise.
I guess if it comes back, we could try more surgery but thats about it I'm afriad.

He sure does, Kristen. I am realistic about it all but at the moment he is fine - and I plan to give him plenty of love and spoil him rotten

I'm glad you got a little bit of a reprieve. You may remember me mentioning that Callie had a similar prognosis with the fibrosarcoma she had on the top of her head....chemo and/or radiation were not really options, so I didn't do anything beyond removing it. I was told 6-12 months and it would come back more aggressive and spread quickly. I lost her 3 years later to something unrelated. So...keep positive and spoil him (like I have to tell you that
