This isn't really about figuring out cost, but since some of you mentioned the Cat Food Glossary, I use Petsumer Report on an almost daily basis. It's what I used when deciding on a food to feed. There is a subscription cost ($17.95/yr), but it's WELL worth it.
Things I like about it: -Complete breakdown of food ingredients (over 2200 pet foods/treats reviewed) -Description of the company/manufacturer, with as much detail as they provided when contacted...including information about plants where food is produced -Descriptions of ingredients -Red flag ingredients are easily visible and marked -Ratings The only thing it's missing is pricing information. But you could find a handful of foods that you would feed based on safety, etc, then research pricing.
