Default Switching to one wet one dry feeding

Presently Ricky is 11 months old and weighs 11 pounds. I have been feeding him Taste of the Wild dry and Natural Balance grain free wet, 1/4c dry with about 1/5 can wet mixed in, twice per day. I would like to switch to a completely wet food feeding at night and I'm wondering just how much I should give him. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

I have a similarly aged and weight cat--Niles is 12.5 months and around 11.5 lbs. I give him 1/4 cup of dry in the morning and anywhere from 2.5-5oz of wet food (1/2 to 1 can) at night, depending on how active he has been, and I can usually tell when he is really hungry by how fast he eats. Sometimes I spread out the wet food into two mini meals, if I'm going to be home all afternoon/evening.

My recommendation to you both is to go to three wet food feedings a day and drop the kibble from your cats' menus entirely. Feed shortly after you get up, right when you get home from work, and just before you go to bed and offer 1/3 of a can at each meal so each cat is eating one whole 5.5 or 6 ounce can a day. Both of your cats are still young, so watch them - they may need you to increase to 1.5 cans a day (so you'd feed half a can at each meal), or depending on their metabolism and activity level, may still need two cans a day.

Three feedings instead of two is better for them, as their tummies can get uncomfortably acidic on only two feedings a day; sometimes, this discomfort can cause them to throw up.

Best regards!

Thanks Lauren! Ricky got 1/2 can wet food last night and ate all but a bit of it, yay!

Auntie Crazy I would love to drop the kibble but it's not an option for me for several reasons. I have a 15yr old cat who will only eat kibble. I know that raw is best (I have 3 raw fed dogs) but I had a really hard time with Ricky as a kitten on raw (there are some posts here from then). And for me to cut kibble completely from his diet is just too expensive for me. So for now I am providing him with the best diet I can afford to feed.
