Ok so I am currently trying to transition my kittens dry food to a better brand and as I understand it I need to do this over a 1-3 week period or so. However I also want to start them on different wetfood brands. Can you just put the new wet food down or does it need to be phased in as well?
Also is this enough food for two kittens? 3oz of wet food each and free fed dry *my work hours donlt really allow me to only feed wet food so I have to leave some dry down* Once they are adults though I do plan to stop the free feeding. |

You would really do better to just get rid of the kibble. Failing that, feed as much wet as you possibly can, over at least three meals a day.
And, no, you don't have to have any transition time with canned food, as it's far more easily digested by the cat's body. Just plunk it down and go. Remember to buy as many varieties as you can find that meet your requirements - this keeps the kittens from becoming fixated on any one product (bad if they change or discontinue that product!) and dilutes any potential quality control issues that might crop up. Best regards! AC

Thank you! My only problem is finding the time. I mean on days I am off no problem. On days I work though I am gone from morning till evening. I did hear one idea that might work but I am wondering if anyone here has tried it and had success. I read on one site that you can put a frozen portion of their food in the bowl with the roomtemperature one. The frozen portion helps keep the room temp portion fresher for longer and will thaw in a few hours time ready for eating. But anyway the idea certainly sounds good on paper but was wondering if any here had actually tried it. I definately would like to get them off the kibble though or at least keep it at a minimum since I know its far from great for them. |
