Mia eats only dry food. I have tried wet but she wont eat it. She has food available to her 24/7. She now weighs 8 lbs and is almost 7 months old.
Sence I got her at 7 weeks old, she has been on a few different foods. The first was Nutro Natural Choice Healthy Kitten, she liked it but I figured I should try grain free so I put her on TOTW after she was through with it. Liked it for about 4 out of 5 pounds then wouldnt eat anymore. I did mix TOTW and Purina one that I had given to me and she ate it for awhile. Now she is on Eagle Pack Kitten Food. She likes it ok and will eat it but doesnt seem to enthused. If I switch her to adult food at this age would she be ok or should I wait for a couple more months. I just thought she might find it more appealing but I want to do whats best for her. I also need advice on food choices (dry). I am within a tight budget as my only source of income is SSDI. After paying bills I have maybe $150 a month left over. I do want to feed her a good food for a decent price though. I love her so much. She is my baby!!! My human ones are all grown up (or so they think at 18 and 20). Thanks for all your help!

I would say that is young, typically people wait till 12 months, but I don't know 100%.
Blue is a decent product, as is Solid gold. Solid Gold is much easier on a budget. Precise is good stuff, as is Wellness. Wellness tends to be very rich, perhaps she will like that?

I'm a grad student on a budget, and I mix (50/50) my girls' food to save some extra $$ when I need to (although I feel more comfortable with this because they do eat mostly wet). I mix Blue (wet) with Whiskas (wet). I know it'd be optimal to feed 100% Blue, but since I have 2 kiddos, doing the 50/50 saves me about $30-50/month.
This way, I save the extra $$, they DO still get a good percentage of the good stuff with the good nutrients etc but it doesn't break the bank when I need a little extra help that month. Have you tried some of the more "junk food-y" wet foods? (FF, Friskies, Whiskas)? I know they aren't great, but cats seem to like them more, and a lot of people say "bad wet is better that 100% dry"..then you can gradually start going towards a 50/50 ratio (quality and junkfood) |

I also started to think when is the best time to start to feed a my cat adult food. For the moment I am feeding her still with food for juniors. I will probably start to give her adult food when she will be 1 year old.
I fed her with ProPlan, but I don't know if you can get it in the USA. Now i mix it with Whiskas. It doesn't matter to her. She seems to like both very much! |

Thankyou Pixall,Jillians and Syrena for your help. I just am not sure because Mia weighs 8 lbs already. She doesnt look fat but I'm scared she will get that way if I let her stay on kitten food. Should I just keep her on it and deal with it when she turns 1 if she is fat? I have heard both ways but thought I'd ask here as so many of you are nutrition consintious and have spent time looking into these things(as I am starting to do).
I really cant afford to feed wet food. Not to mention the one time I did try she wouldnt touch it (it was ff). I'd prefer to feed her a mid price higher quality dry food. She eats 2/3 cup daily of the Eagle Pack Kitten Food (dry) right now. Any other suggestions for food? |

Evo Innova Ancestral Diet is another high quality food you could try. It is a bit pricey, but is high in protein and fat. My cats really love the taste of it. you'll find you can actually feed her less food than one of lesser quality. It is suitable to be fed as "kiten food". Usually around 11-12 mos. females have reached their mature growth. Some pure breeds vary, e.g. Siamese mature earlier, and Maine Coones are later, some still growing at 3-4 yrs. If you find when she nears her first birthday and she's gaining too much weight (you should be able to feel her ribs under a thin layer of fat and she sould have a waist when viewed from above), cut back very gradually on the amount of food until she reaches her ideal weight.
