Default Instant diarrhea from change of food?

I know about gradual mixing for food change, but I was seeing if Toby would like a new food all by itself.

I mixed half and half, old food/new food. 5 hours later - Bam! All liquid, water poo. It was running into his hind legs. Fortunately I saw it so I was able to grab him and get him in the sink where we able to run water right on his paws and use a wash cloth.

Could a food change cause this drastic a reaction so quickly?

Are you talking about kibble or canned products? If kibble, then certainly, this can happen; kibble is very hard on a cat's digestive system (especially if it's high-carb and loaded with grains, fruits and/or veggies).

I change up my girls' food all the time. I hope you figure this out soon, poor little guy.

Look around your house, too, to see if Toby got into something he should not have. Something on the tree, or a food left out at a party, etc.

EVO to wellness core, so they should be about the stuff.

Poor Toby! I hope he is ok. You are lucky to have caught that mess before it got really out of hand around the house. Whew!

I'll throw this out there as some possibilities for the diarrhea.

The mix of the vitamins and their amounts between two foods together can sometimes cause upset. For example, in the Wellness Core, the choline chloride is listed before the other supplement trace vitamins in its formulation and in EVO it is listed towards the end of their formula. (The placement of that specific supplement just as an fyi, means Wellness Core is less naturally nutrient dense in comparison to EVO)

Liquified poo is exactly the side effect of that particular supplement vitamin when too much is ingested at once without enough 'acclimation' to it. Mixing the 50/50 with one of the formulas having it closer to the top might have been a bit much for him that soon.

I see the Wellness Core formulas are also using a proteinate vs. the chelate which EVO has listed. This could also be something that might have upset his tummy a bit. The manufacturing process of creating a proteinate and how they work slightly differently than chelated vitamins can also cause the runs.

It may just take a little more time for him if you continue to go forward with the Wellness Core. I hope he feels better!

Poo back to normal after return to original (EVO) and less than 24 hours later. Good to see things don't bother him for long.

Though I will have to be more careful trying and mixing new foods, it's good to see that he's not too picky if I have to give him something different in a pinch.

Nope, back watery again. I think I'll eliminate his dry EVO and give it more time.

He had his poop checked last week so there's nothing going on there, whic I guess is good.

Poor Toby. I hope his poo goes back to normal soon... I know how much of a pain it is. Blah! Although your post kind of worries me; I started feeding Apollo Wellness and Wellness Core canned, and his poop finally is firm after 2 months. I had to go return his giant bag of Wellness Chicken & Rice dry, and grabbed a ton of canned while I was there. I went ahead and grabbed 3 cans of Evo, just to see how he'd take to it. I know all cats are different, but this makes me a little more cautious to go from brand to brand in wet foods.

Anyway, hope he's back to normal soon!!
