both the cats and the dog would eat wet food exclusively if I could afford to feed it to them. It's way more expensive and I'm on a very limited budget that will get only more limited as I get older.

I can't afford to feed them all meat, either. And the hormones in the meat, well, I don't trust them.

So I'm looking for a compromise. The very rich 'Blue Buffalo' gave the cats diarrhea and throw-ups,They turned their noses up at Science Diet after they got a whiff of what the dog was eating.

And with switching up the wet foods (I did this when the kittens were younger) it was hard to know what was causing the diarrhea. Last night after not having any problems for a week, one of the kittens had explosive diarrhea. On the same food they've been eating *sighs* time to try something different I guess.

My point was that if they're looking for a food to feed a variety of cats across the age spectrum, they'd do well to pick one that is AAFCO certified for all ages. It might not mean much, but, within the same brand it might make sense to pick a food that is certified for all ages rather than one that is only certified for adults i.e. EVO Chicken & Turkey (all ages) versus EVO 95% Chicken & Turkey (adults only). If trials are as slack as Auntie says, either the EVO 95% didn't keep kittens alive, or they didn't bother testing kittens on it, or the blood values weren't within ranges. In this situation, deciding between the two foods, I defer to the AAFCO certification, for better or worse.

Not to mention that the AAFCO is made up of volunteers that have no knowledge of pet food. That's what I've heard/read at least.

It was my understanding from research that there is no reason to feed a kitten specific diet. They CAN eat adult food, they just need more of it to compensate for their high energy use and growth.

It's not like their original diets had specialized prey for kittens...they just needed to eat a lot MORE.

AAFCO still approves the nutrients in cat food to be counted as nutritionally viable even if they are known to cause disease. (Corn and soy are two examples). IMO the only thing AAFCO is good for is for cross-referencing if the vitamin and mineral content of any cat food is over a minimum recommendation and by how much.

I used to rotate my cats between Blue Buffalo Bistro, Wellness and Halo, ended up going exclusively with Halo and still went looking for something closer to raw until I can get them on raw exclusively. All decent foods but I have the feeling the carrageenan in them was irritating my oldest cat.

On a recommendation from someone on the forum here, I switched them to Nature's Logic. It took training for my oldest to recognize it as food but she loves when it is feeding time now. Savors everything! My youngest will eat any canned food without having to be enticed. If Nature's Logic was not around I probably would go with Evanger's Signature Series foods which have neither the carrageenan or choline chloride.

I feed my two siamese 3 month old kittens EVO canned, and strictly that. No dry, no alternatives! It's annoying to get as we only have one store that carries it around here and it's like a 20 minute drive but worth it! Love the stuff. Expensive but whatever, haha

I feed blue, merricks, Iams, and occasionally evangers. Wet and dry. I am currently transitioning my kitties to whole prey. Wayyyyyyy easier and healthier. I am picking up mice and more gerbils tomorrow to start a colony so I know EXACTLY what goes into my kitty food. I will eventually be raising all sorts of animals for the kitties.

Nature's Logic for Yoshi (wet, no dry). He loves it and it contains zero man made ingredients (no added vitamins, minerals).
