My FIL's home (in the Eastern Time Zone) had its water come from a well. He had a conditioner in the basement and a serviceman who would deliver and put salts in to soften the water. FIL would use conditioned water from the sink to put into the cats' water bowls. As I take it, softening the water removes the naturally occurring minerals from it. The cats get their "RDA" of vitamins and minerals through their cat food hopefully, but I wonder if softened water is healthy for the cats if it is their one and only source of water for life?
What kind of water do you give to your pets?

I have a giant brita container in the fridge and the cats fountain gets filled from that. So, filtered tap water. They also have a filter in their fountain so...double filtered I guess.

I also have a well with softened water. Until last winter, the iron content was so high, my water was actually orange so we couldn't drink it. We were using bottled water (the big 5 gallon jugs) to cook with and drink, us and them. We now have a new softener that makes the water drinkable again, but we still have the jugs too. They get jug water, mainly because there's no taps in the basement to easily fill their bowls. I can now cook and drink the tap water, but I like the taste of the bottled stuff better.

We are on a private well and have a water softener. When we bought the house back in 2006, we had the water tested. The levels of everything were all fine, except the sodium content was slightly high. Because of that, we didn't give Sumo that water and we don't give it to Yoshi either. They got/get Poland Spring bottled water. Yoshi actually doesn't drink water any more, since getting him on 100% wet food. I add water to his food for some meals though.

Mimi gets bottled water. My town's water is LOADED with minerals. I used to think my friend was crazy for giving her cat bottled water til I found out how bad our water was. Regrettably, that's what I gave my Princess (RIP) for 4 years and I wonder if that's what possibly made her get sick.... I've learned alot since she passed about nutrition and such from these boards and Mimi is getting the best of everything as a result.
