I buy two different kinds of foods from PetSmart - Authority and Blue. We prefer to buy the Blue for them but recently the Authority food was on clearance for 47c (small can) and 69c (big can) so we picked up a whole bunch.

Cat food does add up in cost, but we always keep our eye out for when PetSmart has a sale or if they have coupons. Now if only the kitties wouldn't eat so much LOL

I'm a flexitarian (mostly vegetarian/vegan but on occasion will eat meat). I feed a 50% wet and 50% raw diet to my cats.

I know it sounds terrifying and stuff. But for me, I felt it was better for my cats. I opt to do only 50% raw so that I don't need to worry about supplements or if they're getting enough nutrients.

I use plastic placemats under the bowls which are easy to clean.

I pay around roughly $2.80 for Nature's Variety Instinct 5.5oz canned wet. They charge more for duck and venison. I throw in a couple cans of the lamb and also a couple of Wellness Cores and Go! I go to the store about every month and costs me roughly $80 a trip.

as a grad student, one way that I stretch the food budget a bit is by feeding 1/2 and 1/2. I make up mixtures of 1/2 whiskas wet and 1/2 blue or wellness wet. The whiskas is a lot cheaper obviously, and since kiddos love it, it makes them gobble up their wet. The blue/wellness is there for the nutrients and to balance out the not so good stuff. (when I'm feeling wealthy, I do give more/or all of the good stuff).

I do leave out a bit of dry during the day, as I can be gone long hours. But that is always Blue grain free stuff. (expensive, but I don't use a lot)

blue grain free is $1.49 for a 3oz
blue spa selects is 1.39 for a 5.5 oz

it seems that it's always the minced/flakes/slices that go on sale..which of course mine will not eat.

for 2 cats, I prob spend about $80-90/month

I pay about £1.50 for 400g ($2.36 for 14oz?). We get through one to two a day. That's the cheapest food I feed- bearing in mind one of my girls has allergies to practically everything, I do feed canned food that is £2 for 5oz too. Which is super expensive!

canned food is expensive, yes. with our kittens we go through about 2-3 cans of food a day. i am mixing in some raw in their diet, but it's mostly canned.

they've decided that there are brands that they won't touch at all (of course the more affordable brands) so we've been spending roughly $2-3 a can on brands like ziwipeak, addiction, tikicat. the one brand that they will consistently eat in my ideal price range is earthborn holistic, which is $1.25 a can.

i'm currently trying to offset the costs by getting raw meat on sale for them, and reduce my own personal expenses...

I logged onto National Pet PHarmacy last night to look for new brands and I noticed their By Nature Beef and Beef liver was listing for 2.59 a case. ...... I went to the main cat canned food page and almost every single brand was listed for dollars.

I ordered 4 cases of the by nature and used a free shipping coupon I had been saving so I got 4 cases for 10.36 or .215 a can. I'm still giggling over that today.

When i logged in later last night they were correcting the prices, it LOOKS like they dropped the first digit in all the numbers. For example the By Nature should have read 12.59 NOT 2.59. If it had been today (pay day) I would have ordered 10 cases of various brands. I guess I'll see if they send it or a get a kiss of email saying "sorry, was a mistake"

I'm checking tons of sites daily in the hopes that this mistake is repeated!

I pay probably about $1.00 per can of wellness because I have a membership with Petsmart (it was free, and I really couldn't pass it up) I'm up to $100 a month with my cat's food and toiletry needs.
I find feeding her wet in the mornings and dry for an overnight thing is really working out for our advantage. Because dry can be stored for a while, and she only eats a little at night (since she sleeps with us) it's not too much of a burden.
If I were in a multi-cat house though, sheesh I can't imagine.
