Poor Mow! So glad he is starting to feel better! Also glad you found an awesome vet! I'm wanting to approach my manager about doing a training for my staff on cat handling. Most of my docs and coworkers are great, but some of them are still scruffing everything and it makes me cringe every time. The AVMA has actually recently published an article that talks about appopriate cat handling that doesn't include heavy handling like scruffing. Anyway, sorry about the rant, its just so hard to find vets/techs that know how to treat a cat properly. Glad you found one!

Wow, that would be something. If I saw a vet scruff my cat I'd be out the door instantly..and looking for a new vet.

I'm so glad to hear MowMow is doing better! I, too, have found a vet that practices alternative medicine in addition to traditional - they are kind, compassionate and handle Mimi as if she were their own - it makes a HUGE difference for both of us. They even handle my paranoid tendencies with kindness and patience and don't make me feel like I'm a PITA when I call for what my previous vet would consider silliness ...

The probiotic really worked for Mimi when she was on antibiotics pre-and post-dental procedures.

Hope MowMow continues to feel better.

He was feeling well enough today to trick me. I gave him his pill and I THOUGHT he swallowed it. He doesn't usually give me much trouble but today I walked away and I noticed he had slinked off behind the couch. When I went to see what he was doing (I assumed he escaped with something he shouldn't have) he was spitting the pill out onto the carpet. There was one other one there, all dried up (I assume last night's). THe little monster!

He got the pill again and I rubbed his little throat and watched him until I was sure it was gone. I guess I better crush it into his food from now on.....

If you dribble a little water into the side of his mouth with a needleless syringe or eyedropper immediately after administering the pill, that will force swallowing AND prevent the pill from getting stuck in his throat on the way down.

Or if you don't have a syringe you can try rubbing a tiny bit of butter on his nose which will get him licking That's what I do for my stubborn old man
