so sorry. what a beautiful girl.
I know that this is the last thing you want to think about right now, but making room in your heart for another cat is an amazing thing. I swore up and down that I did not want to even think about getting another cat anytime soon. The day that we put fluff down, I went back to work, thinking that I would just have to be strong and go about my normal life. Well the pain was to much to bear so I asked my supervisor to leave early that day. I was terrified to go home, because I knew that fluff wasn't going to be there to greet me like he always did. I got to thinking on the ride home, about how many cats there are that arent lucky enough to have a loving family, and decided that I would talk to my fiance about it when i got home. Well, when I opened the door my fiance was on the phone with the spca asking what time they closed. I said ok, lets go now. The fact that it was 2 days before christmas may have somewhat influenced my decision as well. I just pictured a lonely cat spending christmas locked up in a little cage. We adopted Banjo that day, and I have to tell you that he has kept me sane. Not a day goes by that I dont think about Fluff, in fact I picked up his ashes today and have been in tears ever since I got home. He will always have a special place in my heart. And now I have the chance to give another cat the great life that they all deserve. You and your wife have big hearts, and sharing that love that you have is a very healing thing. Thanks for reading this, I just really feel like I can relate to what you are going through. |

3 months, 3 years, 16 years or in my case, just shy of 20 years, they weave their way deep into our hearts while they are with us and when they need to go, it leaves our heart in shreds.
When Mischief, my black kitty of almost 20 years passed on, I saw a stray black cat hanging out at my folks place. Her skinny, bone protuding body pulled at my heart strings and I worked on gaining her trust through regular feedings and treats. She trust us enough to bring her five kittens. We all made a two-way trip to the vet clinic and eventually I found good homes for three and opened my home to the remaining three. They will never replace the wonderful companion I had for over 19 years but I can at least offer these three a good life rather than letting them struggle to survive or die of one of many causes. I believe that opening our homes to a new kitty doesn't deminish how we feel about our long term companion, it just means that we offer another kitty or two a safe haven while we are here on earth. Too many pets are discarded that giving a rescue a second chance at life is honouring those that passed on. I see as helping one of their own. |

Your story about Kitty has touched me so much. What wonderful, loving people you and your wife are. Kitty was ushered out of this world by angels. Getting another cat is a personal decision only you can make when you are ready, but I will say this. Any other feline that ends up in your home will be one lucky cat indeed and you will be doing honor to Kitty's memory by sharing some of that love that you gave her with another cat that needs you.
