I grew up with two kittens my father rescued from his lobster trap. They were only about a month old when he found them trapped in there. Although we got them their shots, this was back in 1990, and we didn't know anything about feline leukemia. Apparently, both our kitties had it ever since they were kittens. One died at age 8, and the other followed at age 9 1/2. It was heart-breaking for the entire family, and my parents never did open their hearts to another kitty. Three days after I moved into my own apartment this past August, I had two kitties of my own that I rescued from a shelter. They were 6 months old when I adopted them, and they have been tested negative for feline leukemia. I pray they have a long, happy life with me.

My neighbor's sister recently lost a 21+ year old to kidney disease.
Maggie is the oldest of any of my cats at 16, I told her she needs to live to at least 26 to make up for losing Onyx and Callie so young (10 & 12).

I lost my first cat, Cinderella, at 7 years old (cancer). Cleo is 7 years old now and the twins are 6. As much as I post that they're bratz (and they are), they'd all better be around for years and years.
